Message from Fr. John Chrysostom Tibakunirwa, Pastor
Last Sunday was the Feast of the Epiphany of the lord. Epiphany means the revelation of Jesus to the world. The revelation continues, today, with the Baptism. Today we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord. We hear God using both inside and outside voices as He speaks to us. In the First Reading from Isaiah 42:1-4.6.7, God tells us that the servant who will bring justice to the Nations will do it quietly, not shouting, not crying out, not making His voice heard in the street. Yet this beloved Servant is being sent to open the eyes of the blind and be a light for those in the darkness quietly serving and loving.
Today we celebrate our own Baptisms as well as Jesus and to listen to the volume as God speaks to us each day. Our Baptism means we are sent by God into the World to carry God's message of love. Isaiah says that we are sent to bring light and love to the blind, to those who are imprisoned and live in darkness. we are to bring justice to those who are poor and oppressed, in big and small ways, in soft and loud voices.
At our Baptism, we (our God parents answered questions asked by the Presider: what are you looking for? Faith. What does faith hold out for you? Everlasting life.
Today, too, we call to mind and pray for the Church or Parish where we were Baptized, the Priest who Baptized us, our Godparents, and all those who assisted in our Baptism. They all played indispensable roles at the beginning of our journey of faith. Prayerfully, today we celebrate our Baptism-Day.

With deep sadness in our hearts, we want to inform you of the death of someone who was our Parish Priest for more than 10 years. Our Priest, our great friend, our brother, our very beloved, Father Mark Mengel has returned to the Father's house. Father Mengel faithfully served our Holy Name parish as administrator from 2008 until his retirement in August 2018. He was ordained a Priest on June 5, 1971 at Holy Cross Church in Holyoke. After ordination, he was assigned to missionary work in Chile, where he learned Spanish and served as parish priest of Our Lady of El Olivo, serving an area of approximately 80,000 people. Let us remember Father Mark Mengel with gratitude and continue to pray for the repose of his soul. May our dear Father Mark Mengel rest in peace.
