Message from Fr. John Chrysostom Tibakunirwa, Pastor
The very First Reading is taken from Prophet Daniel. In it we are presented with an account of some hard times for God's people. The time referenced is about five hundred years before Christ. Alexander the Great and other oppressors are ravaging the Middle East. Wars and distress are all around God's people. What we hear is the prophecy of God's taking care of them, but those who are in the Book. This is the "Book of Life" referred to often in Holy Scripture. It is a human attempt to describe or make understandable God's plan for human life.
Regarding today's Gospel, we are in the part of Mark's Gospel where we hear Jesus consoling His disciples about the trouble to come for them. Of course, this is really important for Mark's disciples- the first to read this Gospel - for the troubles they are facing. And it is really important for us as we face the troubles of our time. When Jesus said that no one knows when the end of time would be, He sure was right. For us today while we might be deeply concerned about the growing critical condition of our planet, the real issue of our concern is about the end of our lives. Who among us has not had a relative or friend pass on recently. I am equally affected by it for the young and old alike. We can face great difficulties including the sting of death itself, however with Christ's love, we will be firm for He is Our Loving Savior.

Dear friends, we have all witnessed the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene. For so many whose lives were impacted, there is a long road ahead. It is at moments like this that we are called upon to look beyond our community to help those in need.
