Message from From Your Pastor
|
|
We are celebrating the Second Sunday of Lent. From the Gospel of Matthew 17:1-9, I notice Jesus takes Peter, James and John up a high mountain. He changes appearance- His face shines and His clothes become bright white. Moses and Elijah appear and talk with Him. A bright cloud covers them and a voice says, “This is my beloved Son; listen to Him.” Then Jesus tells them not to tell anyone until after His resurrection. That scene shows Jesus connected to the Law (Moses) and the Prophets (Elijah). The shinning suggests Divine Glory. The voice from the cloud gives authority to Jesus and tells them to listen—so the disciples should pay attention to His teaching and the coming events. To this end then, we too experience Transfiguration moments--but not often and never on demand. We live on the plains rather than on the mountaintop. Nevertheless, God will occasionally permit us to ascend to the heights and to Glory in what we see there. However, our discipleship will be most complete if we keep our spiritual eyes open to see the Glory that more often manifests itself in our daily lives. The daily grind is where we live. Let us find the Glory that is present even there.
