Message from Fr. John Chrysostom Tibakunirwa, Parish Administrator
The Gospel presents Jesus as reminding those who would trick Him that Caesar, the foreign power of the time, is also not God. Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.

Jesus returns the question around so that they see that everything belongs to God and by chance and force, Caesar has some limited authority which is to be recognized. Jesus reminds His questioners then that while paying taxes, remember that God's image and inscription is within and upon everything. Caesar's is merely on those coins. Pay the coin -tax and pay attention and homage to God and do not put them in tension with each other. There is no other.

The question remains though, how do we repay God for what belongs to Him? How do we love God and fulfill the first Commandment? The Psalmist sings, how can I repay the Lord for his goodness to me. The cup of salvation I will take and call on the Lord's Name.

This is how we repay God, celebrating the Eucharist and celebrating our seeing God's image in ourselves, our brothers, sisters, our pictures and all the ways God inviting us to who we are in God's eyes.

In the first reading of this Sunday God makes clear his choice of Israel. In a most surprising way too, He makes known His choice of a foreign king Cyrus whom Isaiah referred to as God's anointed instrument. His choice of this pagan king as his anointed was for a purpose. This was in order to make known His name known among other nations. Therefore, on this Mission Sunday like both Cyrus and Israel, God has chosen us. He has called us to be part of this same pastoral ministry which is that all peoples may know from the rising of the sun to its setting that apart from God, all is nothing. This is a call to all God's people to go and make Him known to the ends of the earth. That is from North to South and from East to West. I invite ourselves to pray for one another so as to be bold in speaking about the Gospels Ephesians 6:19-20
